Hello from another Jennifer!

I am a Youth Services Librarian at Seminole Heights Library. I am excited about our new blog and thought I would use it to talk to you about an exciting subject...Anime and Manga!

If you are a fan of Japanese comics, you are not alone! Every Wednesday at 4pm, I hold an Anime/Manga Club at Seminole Heights Library. At the club, teens meet to talk about their favorite series such as Full Metal Alchemist, Fruits Basket and Inuyasha. We also watch popular Anime like Howl's Moving Castle, sometimes while eating Japanese candy. For me, one of the highlights of the club is seeing all of the great Manga drawings that teens are doing. We have some very talented artists in the group.

If you would like to join the Anime/Manga Club, just come to the Seminole Heights Library any Wednesday at 4pm. If you can't make it to the club, we now have the blog, where we can share ideas on favorite Manga and Anime. I'm looking forward to hearing more from all the Anime fans out there!

Hi everyone!

My name is Heidi Colom, and I am a Youth Services Librarian at the Tampa-Hillsborough Public Library System! This means that I do programs and select materials for children and young adults.

I am very much into anime and manga, and you will find me attending anime conventions, making anime music videos, and even cosplaying some of my favorite characters. My favorite genres for juvenile and young adult fiction are: fantasy, sci-fi, mysteries, and historical fiction. I also enjoy non-fiction very much- especially the 500s (Natural Sciences), but also the fine arts, languages, pet care, geography, and books about libraries and reading.

I have been blogging for about 5 years now- hope you enjoy this blog as much as I do!

Hi!

My name is Jennifer, and I teach computer classes at the library for kids and teens.

Now, don’t get me wrong… I’m actually not a librarian. A lot of the people you see working in a library aren’t. But I like working with teens and I like computers, so my new job as a “Technical Assistant” for the “Youth Services” team seems like a good thing.

This is the first time that I’ve ever worked at a library. As a matter of fact, until I started working here, I don’t think I’d used my library card for years. Now I’m discovering there’s a lot of interesting (free) stuff happening at the library. I’m also discovering that there are a lot of folks who (like me) don’t know about it.

A bunch of us thought maybe we could make it easier for teens to find out what’s going on at the library... to get the word out about things you might find interesting. We tossed some ideas around and talked to some teens. (Special thanks to everybody at Seminole Heights, 78th Street and North Tampa who shared their ideas and feedback!) Then, we put together a team of staff people from libraries around the county and started a blog… for you.

It’s a place we can talk about good books, cool tech, library events, and whatever else might be interesting to the teens in our libraries and our community.
