Teen Tournament Rules

Teen Tech Week 2008
Game Zone Teen Tournament
Qualifying Events & Grand Tournament

The Rules
The Game Zone Teen Tournament is actually two tournaments in one. We’re holding two simultaneous competitions… Dance Dance Revolution Supernova 2 and Guitar Hero III on the PlayStation 2 console. The rules will be basically the same for both.

Registration

  • Teen Tech Week events are limited to teens ages 13 – 18 only.
  • A completed tournament registration form must be presented at registration prior to all events in order to compete.
  • One form must be completed for each participant.
  • Registration forms are available online at http://teens.hcplc.org/ or at library branches which are hosting tournament events.
  • A signature from a parent or guardian is required for players competing in the Wildcard Qualifier and/or Grand Tournament on March 1 at the Museum of Science and Industry.
  • Registration for each event will be held on-site at each event, beginning 30 minutes prior to the event’s posted start time.
  • Due to space and time constraints, a limited number of participants will be able to play, determined on a first come, first serve basis.

Qualifying Events and WildCard Qualifier

  • Registration for each event will be held on-site at each event, beginning 30 minutes prior to the event’s posted start time.
  • Each contestant will complete 2 songs pre-selected by the judges. Players will be ranked by the highest total combined scores for the 2 songs.
  • Guitar Hero III players will compete in Multiplayer Pro Face-Off mode on Medium difficulty.
  • Dance Dance Revolution Supernova 2 players will compete in Game Mode on Basic difficulty.
  • The top 2 players at each Qualifying Event will receive a certificate of recognition, a prize pack and an invitation to participate in the Grand Tournament.
  • If a player invited to participate in the Grand Tournament will be unable to attend or compete, he/she is asked to notify Tournament Staff so that the next highest scorer may be contacted, if possible, to take his/her place.
  • In addition to the regular Qualifying Events, a WildCard Qualifier will be held at 10:00 am at MOSI on the morning of the Grand Tournament.
  • A signature from a parent or guardian is required on the registration form for players competing in the Wildcard Qualifier.
  • The top 4 players will advance to the Grand Tournament.
  • Additional WildCard players may advance if additional spaces become available due to a pre-qualified player’s absence.

Grand Tournament

  • Participation in the Grand Tournament is by invitation only.
  • The top 2 players at each Qualifying Event will be invited to participate.
  • At least 4 of the top players from the Wildcard Qualifier will advance to compete in the Grand Tournament.
  • A signature from a parent or guardian is required on the registration form for players competing in the Grand Tournament.
  • Sixteen contestants will compete in each tournament (Guitar Hero III or Dance Dance Revolution Supernova 2) to determine 2 finalists for each game.

Preliminary Rounds

  • Preliminary Rounds will use a double-elimination, single-match head-to-head format.
  • Contestants will compete head-to-head in one song per round.
  • The player with the higher score will proceed to the next round.
  • The player with the lower score will proceed to the Challengers’ bracket of the next round following his/her first loss and will be eliminated from the tournament after his/her second loss.
  • Songs will be selected at random.
  • Guitar Hero III players will compete in Multiplayer Pro Face-Off mode on Hard difficulty.
  • Dance Dance Revolution Supernova 2 players will compete in Game Mode on Difficult difficulty.
  • The top player in the Leaders’ bracket will compete against the top player in the Challengers’ bracket in the Final Round of the Grand Tournament.

Final Round

  • Contestants will compete head-to-head in 3 songs, selected in advance by the judges.
  • The player with the top score in 2 out of the 3 songs will be declared the winner of the Grand Tournament.
  • Guitar Hero III players will compete in Multiplayer Pro Face-Off mode on Expert difficulty.
  • Dance Dance Revolution Supernova 2 players will compete in Game Mode on Expert difficulty.
  • The winning player from each tournament will receive a certificate of recognition and a prize package, awarded at an awards ceremony held immediately following the tournaments.

  • If you have a complaint regarding your game, please speak to your scorekeeper / judge.
If that does not resolve your complaint, please notify the lead staff member at your tournament event. His/her decision is final.
